How long is the season?
All in-house seasons (both youth and adult) are three months long and include 10 games plus playoffs. We offer four season per year: Winter, Spring, Summer,
and Fall.
How old does my child have to be to start hockey?
Kids can generally start skating at the age of three and start playing hockey as young as four. There is no upper age limit on when someone can start playing hockey, at KHS we have programs for all ages and abilities.
What equipment will I need?
H.E.C.C. approved helmet with a fastened, regulation strap.
Face protection is optional but strongly recommended for adult hockey.
A full face mask and mouthpiece is required for all players under the age of 18
Elbow pads
Knee pads/shin guards
Protective cup
Hockey gloves
Hockey pants
Hockey skates
Stick
What if my child does not know how to skate?
Luckily at KHS, we have one of the best skating schools in the nation! Check out "Skating Programs" on our webpage, and or contact Cherrie Sweeney skatingschool@khsice.com for more information. After a session or two your child should be ready to get started in hockey!
My child has never played before and I don’t know anything about the game and the rules!
All of our coaches are certified USA Hockey coaches who can explain the game to you and your child in a positive and fun way. We also have a number of skills clinics offered by professional coaches who would be happy to share
their knowledge as well.
What is the difference between youth in-house and youth select?
Youth In-house hockey is appropriate for complete beginners to intermediate players. Advanced players looking for a fun league to play in may play up one age group.
Youth select is for competitive players only and those aspiring to play travel hockey.
