1Q:        What should my child wear to class?

A:           Children should dress in warm, comfortable clothing with lightweight socks and gloves or mittens.  Knit leggings, sweatpants, sweaters and sweatshirts are good choices.  We highly recommend helmets for all children under the age of 6.

2Q:        What are the class procedures?

A:           We suggest arriving at least 30 minutes prior to the class start time.  Skaters must always check in at the check-in desk or box office to receive a wrist band.  This wrist band must be presented at the skate counter to obtain rental skates and must be worn and visible at all times while on the ice.  All shoes will be left at the skate counter, when receiving skates.

3Q:        How  will I know how my child is doing in class?

A:           Our qualified professional instructors evaluate you child during class and provide each skater with a homework card during the fifth week of class.  Your may also talk to your child’s instructor before or after class regarding your child’s progress.  On the last day of class all children will be given a certificate telling them what class they should enroll in for the next session.  It is important that your child is in attendance for the testing week, so he or she can be evaluated.  If your child misses the testing day, he or she will be asked to repeat their class until they are evaluated.

4Q:        What if my child misses a class?

A:           Participants are allowed up to a maximum of 3 make-up lessons for missed classes.  Make-up lessons must be attended during the enrolled semester.  No credit or refunds are offered for missed classes.  We do not allow make-up lessons to be carried over into future semesters.  To schedule a make-up class, check the current schedule for an appropriate class, then ask the check-in person for a make-up wrist band.  The child MUST show the instructor the wrist band.

5Q:        Should I buy my child his/her own skates?

A:           Rental skates are included with your child’s tuition and are appropriate for beginning skaters.  As skaters progress, they benefit from the comfort, support and consistency of their own skates.  Ask your child’s professional instructor or inquire at the Pro Shop for a recommendation of skates based on your child’s level.

6Q:        How often should my child practice?

A:           We recommend skaters practice approximately 2 hours per week in addition to their regularly schedule class. Skaters should practice the skill they learned in their class.

7Q:        What if I have more questions?

A:           You may contact your child’s instructor or the Skating School Director with your questions, comments, or concerns.  The Director’s contact information is: Jen Kohlenberger 714-422-1236 et 255 or jen@khsice.com
